Temporary protected status (TPS)

The Secretary of Homeland Security may designate a country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country's nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately. TPS provides temporary protection from removal (“deportation”) from the United States, and employment authorization (“work permit”) eligibility. TPS applicants may also apply for advance parole and a travel document. However, ACT Immigration Law strongly recommends that you consult with an immigration attorney before applying for a travel document or traveling with advance parole, as such travel may be inadvisable for certain TPS applicants.
